Our story

I asked.
HR gave a bucket range.
So I built a website.

One lowball offer. A budget nobody told me about. A website nobody else had built yet.

Chapter 1

The ₹2 lakh gap nobody told me about

I got an offer. ₹6 lakhs. It was more than my previous CTC, so I said yes. That's how it works, right? You compare it to where you came from, not where you could go.

A few months in, I asked a different HR about the role. Casually. She mentioned, without thinking much of it, that the budget for this position was ₹8 lakhs.

Same role. Same responsibilities. ₹2 lakhs less. Because I didn't know the number.

I wasn't underpaid because I was underqualified. I was underpaid because I was uninformed. The budget existed. The information didn't. Not for me, anyway.

Chapter 2

The questions nobody answers

I tried finding the number myself. Here's what I got:

After leaving the corporate world, one random night, a thought came that I couldn't shake:
